Tamil Actor Vijay’s political outfit, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), has approached the Supreme Court of India challenging the Madras High Court’s order that constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the Karur stampede incident.
The matter was mentioned before Chief Justice of India (CJI) BR Gavai for urgent listing. The CJI agreed to hear the petition on Friday, when another related plea—seeking transfer of the probe to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI)—is also scheduled for hearing.
The petition has been filed through Aadhav Arjuna, TVK’s party secretary.
Earlier, on October 3, the Madras High Court had passed strong observations against TVK, stating that the party “abandoned the place after the incident” and failed to express any remorse over the tragedy.
The case is titled Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam v PH Dinesh (Diary No. 58048/2025).
The stampede in Karur, Tamil Nadu, had resulted in multiple casualties during a welfare event organized by TVK earlier this year. The High Court had formed an SIT to probe the incident, rejecting requests for a CBI inquiry.
