North Korea may possess up to 2,000 kilograms of highly enriched uranium, according to South Korea’s Unification Minister Chung Dong-young, who cited estimates from outside experts, Yonhap News Agency reported.
Chung warned that uranium centrifuges in at least four locations are actively operating, producing nuclear material that could significantly bolster Pyongyang’s weapons program. “It is urgent to stop it,” he stressed, pointing to the escalating risks posed by North Korea’s nuclear advancements.
He added that renewed dialogue between the United States and North Korea could serve as a “breakthrough” in curbing the regime’s nuclear ambitions. The comments come amid heightened concerns over regional security and global non-proliferation efforts.
