Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan was released from Sitapur jail on Tuesday, September 23, after being lodged there for nearly two years. His release followed the granting of bail in all pending cases against him, according to reports by ANI.

On September 18, the Allahabad High Court had granted him bail in the Quality Bar land encroachment case in Rampur district, Uttar Pradesh. A bench led by Justice Samir Jain delivered the order after hearing arguments from all parties involved.

The case originated in 2019, when a first information report (FIR) was filed against Khan’s wife Tazeen Fatma, his son and former MLA Abdullah Azam, and Syed Jafar Ali Jafri by Revenue Inspector Angraj Singh, accusing them of grabbing the Quality Bar land. Although Azam Khan was not initially named in the FIR, he was added as an accused during a reinvestigation conducted five years later.

Khan’s release marks a major development in Rampur’s political landscape, where he remains a prominent leader of the Samajwadi Party.
