Former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday for questioning in connection with a money laundering probe linked to the online betting app 1xBet, ANI reported. Singh’s appearance came after a delay in responding to ED summons.
The 1xBet app is under investigation for allegedly duping people of crores of rupees and evading substantial direct and indirect taxes. The ED is probing the betting platform’s operations as part of a wider crackdown on such apps.
Yuvraj Singh has become the fourth cricketer to face ED questioning in the matter, after Shikhar Dhawan, Suresh Raina, and Robin Uthappa. The agency is examining whether celebrities endorsing the app were aware that online betting is illegal in India. Cricketers have reportedly been asked to submit copies of their contracts and all related documentation with 1xBet.
On Monday, former Indian batsman Robin Uthappa was quizzed for nearly eight hours by ED officials. His statement was recorded under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). Earlier, Dhawan and Raina too had been called in for questioning.
The probe highlights the growing scrutiny of online betting platforms in India, particularly their associations with high-profile celebrities.
