Shares of Hindalco Industries Ltd slipped nearly 1% to ₹743.10 in Thursday’s session after the company reported a fire incident at its subsidiary Novelis’ Oswego manufacturing plant in New York.
The fire broke out late on September 16, 2025, at around 10:00 p.m. EDT and was communicated to Hindalco the following evening. Firefighting efforts concluded by 2:00 a.m. local time, with the company confirming that no injuries occurred during the incident.
Production at the Oswego facility, a key site for Novelis — one of the world’s largest producers of flat-rolled aluminum — has been temporarily suspended while investigations into the cause and operational impact are ongoing.
Hindalco noted that the plant is covered under insurance for both property damage and business interruption, though subject to deductibles and limits. Investors, however, reacted cautiously as the fire disruption comes at a critical time for Hindalco’s international operations.
