Play has been briefly halted in Dubai as on-field umpire Ruchira Palliyaguruge has walked off the field after being accidentally struck on the left ear by a return throw.
The umpire looked visibly dazed after the impact, prompting immediate concern from Pakistan players and medical staff. Despite initial treatment, he appeared uncomfortable and has now decided to leave the field for further attention.
It was a rare and unfortunate incident, coming during UAE’s chase of 147 against Pakistan in this Asia Cup 2025 Group A clash. With Palliyaguruge off the field, play is expected to continue under the supervision of the remaining officials, with a fourth umpire likely to step in.
