An unusual moment unfolded during the Asia Cup 2025 clash between Pakistan and UAE in Dubai when on-field umpire Ruchira Palliyaguruge was accidentally struck on the ear by a throw.
The incident happened as a fielder lobbed the ball back toward the bowler, but with Palliyaguruge’s back turned, the ball clipped his left ear. Though it wasn’t a powerful throw, it left the umpire in visible discomfort.
Pakistan players rushed over immediately to check on him, and the team physio also came onto the field for assistance. Fortunately, Palliyaguruge managed to continue after treatment, though the sting from the impact was clear.
At the time of the incident, UAE were 37/3 in 5.5 overs, chasing 147 runs for victory.
