MakeMyTrip has announced a collaboration with Zomato, India’s leading food ordering and delivery platform, to enhance convenience for train passengers. Travellers booking train tickets on the MakeMyTrip app will now be able to order meals from over 40,000 Zomato-listed restaurant partners, with direct delivery to their seats across 130 railway stations.

The opportunity is significant, given the sharp rise in demand for e-catering. In FY 2024–25, more than 90,000 passengers availed Indian Railways’ e-catering services daily, reflecting a 66% year-on-year growth. MakeMyTrip’s new ‘Food on Train’ offering allows passengers to pre-book breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks, supported by its Live Train Status tool, which ensures timely order nudges during journeys.

The soft launch has already seen encouraging traction, with travellers showing a strong preference for onboard, travel-friendly meals. Building on this momentum, MakeMyTrip plans targeted campaigns to boost adoption. Commenting on the tie-up, Raj Rishi Singh, Chief Business Officer and CMO at MakeMyTrip, said the initiative marks “another step in enhancing the travel experience” and will “strategically unlock one of the fastest-growing consumption opportunities in India’s mobility ecosystem.”

From Zomato’s side, Rahul Gupta, VP – Product, highlighted the platform’s commitment to “Serving India,” adding that the collaboration will enable passengers to conveniently order meals from their favourite restaurants while travelling.

As part of the launch, MakeMyTrip is also offering a special Diwali promotion, giving travellers a complimentary coupon for Zomato food orders when they book train journeys through the platform.

The partnership builds on MakeMyTrip’s broader strategy to enhance every stage of train travel with technology-led features. From seat availability forecasts, route extensions, and flexible booking options, to onboard food delivery and real-time tracking, the company is aiming to deliver a seamless journey.

Zomato, which became an authorised IRCTC partner for on-train food delivery, has already fulfilled over 4.6 million orders across its network. Passengers can pre-book meals up to seven days in advance using their PNR, making train travel more convenient and enjoyable.
