United States President Donald Trump’s administration has directed Delta Air Lines and Aeromexico to dissolve their nearly nine-year-old joint venture by January 1, 2026. The partnership, which allowed both airlines to coordinate prices and flight schedules between the US and Mexico, has been deemed anticompetitive by the US Department of Transportation (DoT).
The DoT said the collaboration gave Delta and Aeromexico an “unfair advantage” in US-Mexico City markets and posed potential harm to consumers, jobs, and competition. Both airlines expressed disappointment over the ruling.
Delta warned that terminating the joint venture would cause “significant harm to US jobs, communities, and consumers traveling between the US and Mexico.” Aeromexico, however, assured passengers that the decision “does not affect our customers.”
The order will not impact Delta’s 20% equity stake in Aeromexico, which the carrier plans to maintain despite the dissolution of the venture.
