The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed on Sunday that its troops struck a high-rise building in Gaza City, shortly after issuing an evacuation order to residents. According to the IDF, the tower was being used by Hamas for intelligence gathering and surveillance operations.
In a statement released on Telegram, the IDF said: “A short while ago, the IDF struck a high-rise building that was used by the Hamas terrorist organization in the area of Gaza City. Hamas terrorists planted intelligence gathering means and positioned observation posts to monitor the location of IDF troops in the area, and to advance terrorist attacks against the State of Israel and IDF troops.”

The military emphasized that precautionary measures were taken to mitigate civilian harm, reiterating that Hamas and other militant groups in Gaza were “exploiting civilian infrastructure and the Gazan population as human shields for terrorist activities.”
The latest strike adds to a series of escalations in Gaza City, where high-rise towers have repeatedly been targeted over allegations of being used as Hamas command hubs and observation points. The IDF’s operations follow a pattern of issuing evacuation orders prior to major strikes, a practice that has drawn both support for minimizing civilian casualties and criticism from humanitarian groups over the scale of displacement.
The situation in Gaza remains tense, with further clashes anticipated as the IDF intensifies its campaign against Hamas infrastructure.
