Bangladesh’s struggles continued in their Asia Cup 2025 Group B clash against Sri Lanka as Towhid Hridoy was run out in dramatic fashion, leaving the team reeling at 3 wickets down inside 5 overs at Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi.
After surviving a dropped chance earlier, Hridoy looked to push the scoring rate alongside skipper Litton Das. Attempting a risky third run off Nuwan Thushara’s delivery, Bangladesh’s hopes were dashed by Kamil Mishara’s brilliance in the field.
Stationed at deep mid-wicket, Mishara sprinted, slid to collect the ball cleanly, and unleashed a pinpoint direct hit at the striker’s end from a considerable distance. Despite a full-length dive, Hridoy was caught short, departing for 8 runs off 9 balls. The dismissal was recorded as: Towhid Hridoy run out (Kamil Mishara) 8(9).
This left Bangladesh struggling at 11/3 in 4.3 overs, with their top order dismantled. Earlier, Nuwan Thushara and Dushmantha Chameera had already delivered back-to-back maiden wicket overs, dismissing both openers without scoring. The run-out compounded the crisis, putting immense pressure on Litton Das and the incoming batsman Mahedi Hasan.
Sri Lanka, after winning the toss and opting to bowl, have dominated the opening passages with both ball and fielding brilliance, keeping Bangladesh on the back foot.
