Russia’s Kamchatka region has been placed on high alert following a 7.4-magnitude earthquake and subsequent strong aftershocks, Governor Vladimir Solodov confirmed on Friday.

Authorities have begun inspecting housing stock and key public facilities to assess potential damage. “Specialists have begun inspecting socially significant facilities and housing stock after a strong aftershock. All services have been put on high alert,” Solodov said in a statement on Telegram.

So far, there have been no reports of casualties or major structural damage. Emergency services remain on standby as the region continues to experience aftershocks.

Kamchatka, located in Russia’s Far East and known for its seismic activity, has been rocked by frequent earthquakes due to its position along the Pacific “Ring of Fire.”
