Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Tuesday said that a Russian airstrike on the rural settlement of Yarova in Donetsk region killed at least 20 people. The village, home to fewer than 2,000 residents, was struck in what Kyiv described as yet another deliberate attack on civilians.

“Such Russian strikes must not be left without an appropriate response from the world. The Russians continue destroying lives while avoiding new strong sanctions and new strong blows,” Zelensky said in a statement, urging the United States, European partners, and the G20 to act.

Civilian toll rises

The latest strike adds to the growing civilian toll in eastern Ukraine, where Russia has intensified attacks on smaller towns and villages in recent weeks. Emergency services have been deployed to the site, though authorities warned the number of casualties could rise.

Call for stronger sanctions

Zelensky reiterated his appeal for tougher international sanctions and coordinated pressure on Moscow, stressing that punitive measures must match the scale of destruction inflicted on Ukraine’s population.
