Arsenal have confirmed the signing of Ecuadorian defender Piero Hincapié from Bayer Leverkusen in a deal worth €52 million. The 22-year-old centre-back joins the Gunners on an initial loan agreement, with an obligation-to-buy clause set to be triggered in June 2026.
Hincapié’s arrival marks a historic moment for the North London club, as he becomes the first Ecuadorian player to represent Arsenal in their illustrious history. Widely regarded as one of the most promising young defenders in Europe, his versatility and composure on the ball are expected to strengthen Mikel Arteta’s defensive options heading into the new campaign.
The left-footed defender had been a key figure for Bayer Leverkusen since joining them in 2021, playing a crucial role in their Bundesliga and European campaigns. Known for his aggressive style, ability to read the game, and confidence in possession, Hincapié fits well into Arsenal’s philosophy of building from the back.
The €52 million agreement, structured as a loan with a compulsory purchase clause, provides financial flexibility while ensuring the Gunners secure one of South America’s brightest talents for the long term.
