The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Monday said the Mithi river water level has risen to 3.10 metres, just short of the 4-metre danger mark, amid continuous heavy rainfall in the city.
Authorities have begun slum evacuations in vulnerable low-lying areas around the riverbanks as a precautionary measure, even as IMD’s red alert remains in place for several parts of Mumbai.
The BMC has deployed teams with support from the Mumbai Police and NDRF to ensure smooth evacuation, particularly in Kurla, Saki Naka, and nearby informal settlements that face frequent flooding during monsoons.
Meanwhile, traffic snarls and waterlogging continue in multiple pockets of the city, while residents have been urged to avoid unnecessary travel and closely follow civic advisories.
BMC officials warned that with the forecast of heavy-to-very-heavy showers accompanied by high tide later today, the situation could escalate rapidly if rainfall persists.
