Zomato and Swiggy’s shares erased early gains in Monday’s session after reports emerged that the Competition Commission of India (CCI) has intensified its probe into their quick commerce units, Blinkit and Instamart, alongside rival Zepto.

As per reports of NDTV, the CCI has sought additional details from the petitioner in an ongoing anti-competition case alleging market dominance, deep discounting, and business irregularities by these quick commerce platforms. Sources indicate that the petitioner has been asked to furnish comprehensive data on pricing patterns, deep discount strategies, and the overall market impact of the companies’ operations.

The FMCG distributors’ body, which filed the complaint in March, has accused these firms of practices that undermine smaller retailers and distort healthy competition. The regulator is also examining possible contraventions of provisions under the Competition Act, 2002.

Following the review of fresh submissions, the CCI is expected to relist its inspection application against Zepto, Instamart, and Blinkit. This comes amid growing scrutiny of India’s booming quick commerce segment, where rapid expansion and aggressive discounting have been key competitive levers.
