Jupiter Wagons Ltd. (JWL), one of India’s leading providers of integrated mobility solutions across rail, road, and marine transport, has landed a major order worth ₹242.41 crore from GATX India Private Limited — the country’s largest private railcar lessor. The contract covers the manufacturing and supply of 583 specialised freight wagons designed to meet the evolving needs of India’s logistics sector.
Under the agreement, JWL will deliver a mix of BLSS, ACT2, BOXNHL, and BVCM wagons. These purpose-built railcars are engineered for high-capacity, long-distance freight operations, ensuring efficient movement of bulk goods, passenger vehicles, and containerised cargo.
Details of the Specialised Wagons
-
BLSS (Container Carrier Wagon): Designed for ISO containers, these wagons boast high axle load capacity and a strong payload-to-tare ratio. They are ideal for intermodal logistics, offering smooth port-to-hinterland connectivity.
-
ACT2 (Bi-level SUV Carrier): A dedicated automobile transport solution capable of carrying up to 10 SUVs per wagon. The design minimises handling, speeds up loading/unloading, and provides added protection for vehicles — catering to India’s growing SUV market.
-
BOXNHL (High-Capacity Open Wagon): Built for bulk commodities like coal and iron ore, these open-top wagons are tippler-friendly and offer over 70 tonnes of payload capacity, enhanced brake systems, and better speed potential for heavy-haul freight routes.
Jupiter Wagons says this contract not only strengthens its position in the Indian rail freight market but also reinforces its reputation for innovation and quality. With a focus on timely delivery, safety, and efficiency, the company aims to execute the project to the highest industry standards, boosting GATX’s operational capabilities and cargo handling efficiency.
