Tim David produced a counterattacking half-century off just 29 balls to revive Australia’s innings in the Australia vs South Africa, 1st T20I at Darwin after the hosts had slipped to 75/6 inside eight overs.

After Aiden Markram won the toss and opted to field, South Africa struck early through Kagiso Rabada, George Linde, and Kwena Maphaka, removing Travis Head (2), Josh Inglis (0), Mitchell Marsh (13), Cameron Green (35), Mitchell Owen (2), and Glenn Maxwell (1) in quick succession.

Walking in during a collapse, Tim David counterpunched in style, striking boundaries freely and clearing the ropes with ease. He brought up his half-century from 29 deliveries with a four to deep extra cover off Corbin Bosch in the 13th over. His knock included five sixes and three fours, lifting Australia to 122/6 after 13 overs in partnership with Ben Dwarshuis, who was unbeaten on 10 off 12 balls.

David’s aggressive approach has kept Australia in the hunt for a competitive total despite the early damage inflicted by South Africa’s bowlers.
