JSW Energy Limited has announced the commissioning of the second 80 MW unit at its Kutehr Hydroelectric Power Plant, located in the Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh. This brings the total commissioned capacity at the site to 160 MW out of the planned 240 MW. Power dispatch from the operational capacity has started to Haryana. The remaining 80 MW unit is expected to be commissioned soon.

The Kutehr project comprises three units of 80 MW each. It is supported by a long-term Power Purchase Agreement with Haryana Power Purchase Centre (HPPC) for the entire 240 MW capacity. The PPA specifies a levelized ceiling tariff of ₹4.50 per kilowatt-hour and is valid for 35 years, with provisions for extension. Electricity from the plant is designated for supply to Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam and Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam.

With this development, JSW Energy’s installed hydroelectric capacity stands at 1,551 MW. The company’s total renewable capacity now includes 2,157 MW of solar and 3,562 MW of wind, accounting for 56 percent of its installed generation portfolio.

JSW Energy currently has a locked-in generation capacity of 30.3 GW. This consists of 12.9 GW of operational capacity, 12.8 GW under construction across thermal and renewable sources, and a pipeline of 4.6 GW. The company also has 29.4 GWh of committed energy storage capacity—26.4 GWh from hydro pumped storage projects and 3.0 GWh from battery storage systems. It has stated targets of reaching 30 GW of generation capacity and 40 GWh of energy storage by the 2030 financial year, and aims to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
