ABB India has successfully commissioned its advanced ABB Ability™ SCADAvantage solution for THINK Gas (formerly AG&P Pratham), bringing complete automation and digital control to the company’s vast City Gas Distribution (CGD) network. This move marks a major leap in how gas is managed and delivered across ten Indian states.
THINK Gas operates across 19 Geographical Areas (GAs) covering Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu. The network includes over 500 CNG stations, around 5.5 lakh registered DPNG (domestic piped natural gas) connections, and nearly 17,000 inch-km of steel pipelines catering to households, industries, and commercial customers.
Due to ABB’s cloud-based SCADAvantage platform, THINK Gas can now monitor and manage its entire gas network in real-time from a centralized control center in Chennai. The system handles everything—from pressure and flow control to billing, pricing, and gas planning—improving speed, accuracy, and responsiveness.
THINK Gas says the new system has slashed operational costs by up to 60%, especially in manpower-related expenses, while enhancing overall network efficiency and control.
With India aiming to push natural gas to 15% of its total energy mix by 2030, tech-led advancements like these are key to scaling clean and reliable energy delivery to both households and industries.
