The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) on Monday received an email threatening to “blow up” the Golden Temple in Amritsar, prompting authorities to tighten security at the holy shrine. Police officials deployed additional forces around the gurdwara and pressed a bomb disposal squad into service to ensure the safety of the premises and the thousands of devotees who visit daily.

Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar confirmed the threat and said that an FIR has been lodged based on the SGPC’s complaint. “The cybercrime wing of the Punjab Police and other investigative agencies are probing the source of the email to track down the sender,” he added. According to SGPC officials, over one lakh devotees visit the Golden Temple every day, making it imperative to maintain strict vigilance.

Meanwhile, Amritsar MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla raised the issue on social media platform X, calling for immediate action. “An email has been received threatening to blow up Sri Harmandir Sahib (Golden Temple) with RDX. This is not just a threat to a religious site – it’s an attack on peace, faith & humanity,” Aujla stated. He urged Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and the state police chief to ensure no lapse in intelligence or protection and to keep all departments on high alert.

Authorities have assured devotees that all necessary measures are being taken to secure the premises and that investigations are underway to apprehend the culprit.
