West Bengal: Balvinder Singh, a security personnel to BJP leader Priyangu Pandey was beaten by West Bengal police. The police have brutally beaten him and the black and blue marks of lathis are visible on his body.
We have also learnt by multiple Twitter posts that during the lathi charge he was thrown across the street rolling, where his turban was removed in the assault which is also observed in the video. Later he was handcuffed and taken in his discomforting condition. The security person belongs to the Sikh community and they regard their turban as a mark of respect. However, removing it can harm their belief and it is considered as a disrespectful act as it violates any individual’s religious faith.

West Bengal government is facing several protests by BJP workers who are protesting in large numbers. There has been a clash between police and BJP workers which went violent. Police were using water cannons and were lathi-charging to control the situation but this type of disrespectful act has clearly violated his self respect.
However the matter has been regarded violent and unfair as BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya has given a public statement in a tweet.”We were holding a peaceful march, but the police action turned it into a violent protest. The police and goons from the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) attacked us. It’s all happening because of the dictatorial attitude of Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee.”

Simultaneously, a West Bengal police official said that the movement was agitated by BJP workers since, “there was provocation (from BJP workers), and we have got proof of their violent acts. Arms have been recovered. There were attacks on Policemen, and several of them have been injured. The police have handled the situation with patience and showed resistance. We are committed to protecting the democratic space. However, we handled the situation with an iron fist. About 89 protesters have been detained from Kolkata, and 24 have been from Howrah. This is a preliminary report. Further updates will be shared later.”
