Tata Motors has released its sales data for the first quarter of FY26, reporting a total of 2,10,415 units sold across domestic and international markets. This marks a decline of 8.5% compared to the 2,29,891 units sold in the same period last year (Q1 FY25).

Commercial Vehicle Sales

In the domestic market, Tata Motors sold 79,572 commercial vehicles during Q1 FY26, down 9.2% from 87,615 units in Q1 FY25. Sales in June 2025 also dipped by 9% year-on-year, with 27,936 units sold compared to 30,623 in June 2024.

Looking at specific segments within commercial vehicles:

  • Heavy Commercial Vehicles (HCV Trucks): Dropped 17% YoY in June, with 7,359 units sold vs 8,891 units last year.

  • Intermediate and Light Commercial Vehicles (ILMCV Trucks): Slight 3% decline in June; quarterly sales rose 5% YoY.

  • Passenger Carriers: Largely flat with minimal growth YoY.

  • Small Commercial Vehicles (SCV) and Pickups: Fell 9% in June and 17% for the quarter.

Despite the weak domestic numbers, international business saw significant growth. CV exports rose 70% YoY in June and 68% for the quarter, with 6,034 units shipped compared to 3,594 in Q1 FY25.

Combined domestic and export sales of MH&ICV (medium, heavy, and intermediate commercial vehicles) stood at 40,401 units for Q1 FY26, down from 41,974 units in the same period last year.

Passenger Vehicle Sales

Passenger vehicle sales, including electric vehicles, also saw a decline. Tata Motors sold 1,24,809 units in Q1 FY26, compared to 1,38,682 units in Q1 FY25—a drop of 10%. June sales fell 15% YoY to 37,237 units.

Electric vehicle (EV) sales, which include both domestic and export numbers, totalled 16,231 units for the quarter, slightly down from 16,579 units in Q1 FY25. However, EV sales in June 2025 grew 12% YoY to 5,228 units.

Company Outlook

While the quarter was subdued overall, Tata Motors noted sequential improvement in commercial vehicle sales in June compared to May. The company also highlighted growth in international business and the launch of new offerings, including the budget-friendly Ace Pro mini-truck and air-conditioned cabins across its truck range.

The company expects a gradual recovery in the coming months, supported by favorable monsoon forecasts, potential rate cuts, and continued focus on infrastructure development.
