Amid escalating tensions between Iran and Israel, former U.S. President Donald Trump has publicly denied French President Emmanuel Macron’s claims that he left the G7 Summit in Canada to work on a ceasefire. “Wrong!” Trump wrote on Truth Social, calling Macron “publicity seeking” and asserting that his return to Washington is for matters “much bigger” than a ceasefire.
This development comes as Iran and Israel exchange waves of missile and drone attacks for a fifth straight day. Israel’s recent ‘Operation Rising Lion’ targeted Iran’s nuclear facilities, prompting Tehran’s retaliation. Over 20 people have died in Israeli cities, and hundreds have been injured.
The G7 issued a strong statement supporting Israel’s right to defend itself, declaring Iran a “principal source of regional instability and terror.” The leaders also emphasized that Iran must never possess nuclear weapons and called for de-escalation, including a ceasefire in Gaza.
Meanwhile, visuals from Iranian state TV showed a missile strike mid-broadcast, forcing the anchor to flee. Iranian authorities also claimed to have busted a Mossad-run drone factory.
Trump has urged Iranians to “evacuate Tehran,” reiterating that “Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon.” He also hinted that Iran missed an opportunity to strike a deal. Iran, in turn, has threatened to exit the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.
The U.S. has deployed additional defense capabilities to the region, while talks between Iran and the U.S. have been postponed. India, among other nations, has issued advisories for citizens in Israel amid growing global concern.
