In a significant escalation of tensions in the Middle East, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed that it has launched a “preemptive, precise, combined offensive” targeting Iran’s nuclear infrastructure. According to a statement issued by the IDF, dozens of Israeli Air Force (IAF) jets carried out coordinated strikes on various military sites, including nuclear-related targets, across multiple locations in Iran.

“The State of Israel has no choice but to fulfill the obligation to act in defense of its citizens and will continue to do so everywhere it is required,” the IDF said in a strongly worded announcement.

The IDF also cited that today, Iran is closer than ever to obtaining a nuclear weapon, calling it an “existential threat” not only to Israel but to the global community. The strike is said to have targeted facilities believed to be advancing Iran’s nuclear weapon capabilities.
Meanwhile, Reuters, quoting Axios, confirmed that the Israeli Air Force had indeed conducted the strike. This marks one of the most aggressive moves in recent years amid Iran’s ongoing nuclear ambitions.
Local sources reported explosions in multiple Iranian cities including Tehran. Iran has yet to officially respond, although previous warnings from Tehran had suggested retaliation against any Israeli attack.
The escalation comes just hours after global markets reacted sharply to geopolitical uncertainty, with oil prices spiking and market indicators like GIFT Nifty and global equities taking a hit.
