Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2025 keynote is set to begin tonight at 10:30 PM IST, and one of the most anticipated announcements is the unveiling of iOS 26’s new Liquid Glass design. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, this major interface overhaul is not just a visual upgrade—it’s a stepping stone toward the future of Apple’s hardware, especially the company’s 20th-anniversary iPhone expected in 2027.
iOS 26 brings Apple’s biggest UI shift since iOS 7
The Liquid Glass design introduces a futuristic, seamless aesthetic inspired by visionOS—the operating system that powers Apple’s Vision Pro. The new design emphasizes translucency, floating menus, reflective elements, and layered depth effects to create a visually immersive experience. Toolbars, notifications, and menus are expected to gain dynamic and context-aware transparency as part of Apple’s broader “Solarium” interface language.
This update marks the most significant design transformation since iOS 7 and reflects a deep integration of Apple’s software and hardware ambitions. Importantly, the Liquid Glass interface will also appear across macOS, iPadOS, watchOS, and tvOS to ensure a unified experience across devices.
The 20th-anniversary iPhone: Apple’s ‘Glasswing’ concept
Gurman also reports that the Liquid Glass UI has been engineered with Apple’s future hardware in mind—specifically a new iPhone model internally codenamed “Glasswing”. Expected to launch in 2027 to mark the iPhone’s 20th anniversary, this device is said to feature curved glass that wraps around the entire body, eliminating visible bezels and front-facing cutouts.
The anniversary iPhone is rumored to include under-display Face ID and camera technology, offering a truly edge-to-edge display. The combined aesthetic and engineering innovations suggest Apple is aiming for a major leap in industrial design and user interface coherence.
WWDC 2025 is expected to set the tone for this vision, with iOS 26’s Liquid Glass design serving as a foundational milestone in Apple’s long-term strategy.
