Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday made his first public statement on the ongoing military confrontation with Pakistan, days after India launched a series of precision strikes targeting terror infrastructure across the border. Addressing the nation at 8 PM, Modi lauded the courage and restraint of India’s armed forces and intelligence agencies.
“In the last few days, we have all witnessed the capability and patience of our country,” Modi said. “I salute the armed forces, the military, the intelligence agencies, and our scientists.”
The Prime Minister confirmed that Indian forces had struck terrorist hideouts and training centres in Pakistan, a decisive response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that left dozens of civilians dead.
“On 22 April, in Pahalgam, the barbarism that terrorists showed has shaken not only the country but the entire world,” he said. “Those innocent people, who were celebrating the holidays, were killed in front of their families—after being asked about their religion.”
His remarks came hours after a high-level ceasefire dialogue between Indian and Pakistani military leaders and a tri-services briefing that highlighted India’s defensive success, including the deployment of Akash SAMs and anti-drone systems under Operation Sindoor.
This is PM Modi’s first direct statement on the matter, signaling India’s firm resolve amid a cautiously unfolding ceasefire.
