In a strong and clear message to Pakistan, DGMO Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai on Saturday confirmed that a hotline message was sent earlier today to his Pakistani counterpart warning of “fierce and punitive” retaliation in the event of any further ceasefire violations.
The communication came after Pakistan, within hours of proposing and agreeing to a ceasefire on May 10 at 5 PM IST, violated the agreement through fresh cross-border firing and multiple drone intrusions across the Line of Control and International Border.
“My communication with the Pak DGMO was conducted at 15:35 hrs yesterday and resulted in cessation of cross-border firing and air intrusions by either side with effect from 17:00 hrs, 10th of May… However, disappointingly, expectedly, it took only a couple of hours for Pakistan Army to violate these arrangements,” said Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai in the tri-services press briefing.
He confirmed that these violations were “responded to robustly” by Indian forces and noted that another hotline message has now been sent, clearly outlining India’s intent to respond “fiercely” to any future provocation.
“The Chief of Army Staff has granted full authority to our army commander for counteraction in case of any violation by Pakistan,” Lt Gen Ghai added, affirming India’s unwavering military preparedness and commitment to national security.
