In a sobering update during the tri-services press briefing on Saturday, Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai confirmed that five personnel from the Indian Armed Forces have lost their lives during Operation Sindoor and subsequent ceasefire violations by Pakistan.
The operation, launched in response to the Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 civilian lives, was aimed at destroying terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). In the same briefing, Lt Gen Ghai had earlier stated that over 100 terrorists were neutralised, including key figures linked to the IC-814 hijacking and the Pulwama terror attack.
Additionally, 35–40 Pakistani military personnel were also killed in the targeted precision strikes carried out by Indian forces at key installations such as Rafiqui, Muridke, Rahim Yar Khan, and Sialkot aviation bases.
Lt Gen Ghai noted that Pakistan “expectedly” violated the ceasefire agreement that was agreed upon on May 10 at 5 PM IST between the DGMOs of both nations. “We anticipated such duplicity,” he said, adding that India responded firmly and proportionately to every violation with operational readiness in place.
