Director General Military Operations (DGMO) Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai, during the tri-services press briefing on Operation Sindoor, confirmed that Pakistan “expectedly” violated the ceasefire agreement mere hours after it was announced. He noted that Indian Armed Forces were prepared for such duplicity and had already anticipated a breach.

“Despite the understanding reached at the DGMO level for cessation of military actions from 5 PM on May 10, Pakistan resorted to artillery fire, drone incursions and targeted attacks across multiple Indian locations, including Jammu, Kathua, and Srinagar,” Lt Gen Ghai stated.

He emphasized that India’s forces responded with firmness and precision, maintaining a strong posture across the Line of Control and International Border. “Our preparedness ensured that all provocations were appropriately dealt with. We were neither surprised, nor caught off guard,” he added.

Earlier, Lt Gen Ghai had remarked:

“You are all by now familiar with the brutality and the dastardly manner in which 26 innocent lives were prematurely terminated at Pahalgam on 22nd April. When you combine those horrific scenes and the pain of the families that the nation witnessed with numerous other recent terrorist strikes on our armed forces and defenceless civilians, we knew that the time had arrived to make yet another compelling statement of our resolve as a nation. Operation Sindoor was conceptualized with a clear military aim to punish the perpetrators and planners of terror and to destroy their terror infrastructure.”

The briefing reiterated that India views the ceasefire violations with utmost seriousness and retaliatory measures have been taken at multiple fronts, both diplomatically and militarily. The Indian Armed Forces remain on high operational readiness as the situation continues to evolve.
