New Delhi: In a formal announcement during the MEA-MoD briefing on Friday evening, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri confirmed that India and Pakistan have agreed to a comprehensive ceasefire, covering land, air, and sea operations, beginning 1700 hours IST today.
“Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) called the Indian DGMO at 15:35 hours earlier this afternoon. It was agreed between them that both sides would stop all firing and military action on land and in the air and sea with effect from 1700 hours Indian Standard Time. Today, instructions have been given on both sides to give effect to this understanding,” Misri said.
He further added that the DGMOs will speak again on May 12 at 1200 hours to assess implementation and maintain communication going forward.
This announcement comes shortly after global leaders including US President Donald Trump and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio claimed credit for facilitating a diplomatic breakthrough between the two nuclear-armed neighbours.
Despite international mediation chatter, Indian government sources clarified that the ceasefire understanding was a bilateral decision, initiated directly by Pakistan’s military through an official channel.
