In a significant development following Operation Sindoor, the Ministry of Defence confirmed today that Indian Armed Forces conducted a proportionate response to Pakistan’s attempted escalation by targeting Pakistani Air Defence systems — including one confirmed strike on an air defence unit in Lahore.
The response came after Pakistan attempted to engage multiple military targets across Northern and Western India using drones and missiles between the night of May 7 and early hours of May 8. Key Indian military bases including Awantipura, Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Adampur, Bhatinda, Chandigarh, Nal, Phalodi, Uttarlai, and Bhuj were targeted. However, the Integrated Counter UAS Grid and Indian Air Defence successfully neutralised these threats, with debris recovered from multiple locations confirming the attempted strikes.
In response, India launched a targeted counter-offensive, aiming at Pakistan’s air defence infrastructure. The PIB statement reads: “Indian response has been in the same domain with the same intensity as Pakistan. It has been reliably learnt that an Air Defence system at Lahore has been neutralised.”
Additionally, Pakistan increased mortar and artillery firing across the Line of Control (LoC) in regions like Kupwara, Baramulla, Uri, Poonch, Mendhar, and Rajouri. This has resulted in the tragic deaths of 16 civilians, including women and children.
India reiterated its commitment to a non-escalatory posture but affirmed that any further provocation from the Pakistani side will be met with appropriate force.
