Despite losing to 3-1 against PSG in the UCL semifinals last night, Arsenal’s manager felt they were dominating the game and there’s no better team than them in the league. They lost to PSG in both the legs and they are now trophyless for the last 5 seasons and Arteta came up with the statement that raised concerns among competitors and other top clubs.
Arsenal’s Champions League journey came to a bitter end last night after a 3-1 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the semifinal second leg, sealing a 5-2 aggregate loss. Despite falling short once again and extending their trophy drought to a fifth consecutive season, manager Mikel Arteta remained defiant in his post-match remarks.
“I don’t think there’s been a better team in the competition so far,” Arteta said. “We were much better than them, in both of the legs.”
The Gunners showed spirit at the Emirates but were ultimately undone by PSG’s clinical finishing and experience at the highest level. Goals from Kylian Mbappé, Ousmane Dembélé, and Vitinha saw the French champions through, while Arsenal’s solitary strike from Bukayo Saka proved too little, too late.
Arteta’s comments raised eyebrows among fans and pundits, especially given that Arsenal lost both legs of the tie.
