Airtel has rolled out two new features to enhance its spam detection system, aiming to provide improved protection against spam calls and SMS. These updates follow the company’s AI-powered spam detection tool, which has flagged over 27.5 billion spam calls to users since its launch in September 2024.

Key Updates

  1. Spam Alerts in Regional Languages
Airtel users will now receive spam notifications in their preferred Indian languages. The feature currently supports ten languages: Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, Gujarati, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Urdu, Punjabi, and Telugu. This multilingual support is currently available only on Android devices.

  2. Detection of International Spam Calls and Messages
In response to a rise in international spam traffic—up by 12% in the past six months—Airtel’s AI tool will now detect and notify users about spam calls and messages originating from foreign networks. This move is aimed at addressing the shift in tactics used by spam callers who now use overseas routes to bypass domestic filters.

Automatic Activation and Availability

These features are free of charge and will be automatically activated for all Airtel customers. No manual activation or service request is required.

Impact of Airtel’s Anti-Spam Initiative

Since its introduction in late 2024, Airtel’s spam detection system has helped reduce spam calls by 16% for its customers. The AI-driven solution continues to operate in real-time, identifying an average of 1,560 spam calls per second.
