Thursday began with shockwaves across Indian cricket circles as reports surfaced claiming that batting coach Abhishek Nayar and fielding coach T Dilip have been sacked from their respective roles. The report, first carried by Dainik Jagran, states that the BCCI has made the decision following India’s disappointing 1-3 Test series defeat against Australia, where senior batters failed to deliver.
According to the report, Nayar has been removed just eight months into his tenure with Team India, despite the side’s Champions Trophy 2025 triumph. Fielding coach T Dilip and trainer Soham Desai are also said to have been relieved of their duties.
No official announcement yet
While these reports have stirred debate and speculation, it is important to note that BCCI is yet to make any official statement confirming the exits. At this stage, the news remains unverified.
If the report is to be believed, Sitanshu Kotak, already associated with the team as batting coach, may take over Nayar’s role. Ryan ten Doeschate, who is currently involved in the setup, could be given added responsibility for fielding duties. As for fitness and conditioning, Adrian Le Roux, who has previously worked with KKR and is currently with PBKS, may replace Desai.
India’s batting struggles in Australia
India’s batting woes were on full display during the recent Test series against Australia. Yashasvi Jaiswal was the only bright spot, amassing 391 runs in five matches, while Nitish Kumar Reddy followed with 298. On the contrary, Virat Kohli managed only 190, and Rohit Sharma scored just 31 in three appearances.
Current support staff
The Indian team’s support system currently includes training assistant Raghavendra, Dayanand Garani, physiotherapist Kamlesh Jain, masseur Arun Kanade, and several other personnel including team operations manager Sumit Mallapurkar.
As of now, it remains to be seen if the BCCI confirms or denies the alleged exits and what structural changes may follow within the Indian team setup.
