Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes had warm words for rival skipper Kevin De Bruyne following the goalless draw between United and Manchester City at Old Trafford last night.
Fernandes, who was named Man of the Match for his commanding performance in midfield, took a moment after the game to pay tribute to De Bruyne, who has confirmed he will leave City at the end of the season.
“It’s been a pleasure to face Kevin De Bruyne in the Premier League, really,” Fernandes said. “He made the Premier League better. If Manchester City is where they are and we haven’t won as many trophies in this period, it’s also because of Kevin De Bruyne.”
The two captains led by example in what was a hard-fought, tactical battle between the Manchester rivals. While there were no goals, the respect between the players was evident, especially from Fernandes, who acknowledged De Bruyne’s impact on the league over the years.
