Gujarat Titans are inching closer to victory in their chase of 153 against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Match 19 of IPL 2025 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad. However, a controversial moment in the match has taken centre stage — the dismissal of Washington Sundar.

Sundar was dismissed for 49 off 29 balls by Mohammed Shami, who bowled a short ball outside off. Sundar cut it to sweeper cover where Aniket Verma took a low diving catch. While the on-field umpires referred it upstairs, replays initially showed a 50-50 scenario on whether the ball touched the ground. Despite the close call, TV umpire Nitin Menon ruled it a clean catch, stating that Aniket’s fingers were under the ball.

The decision didn’t sit well with many. Shubman Gill was seen having a heated discussion with the umpires post the dismissal. Even Matthew Hayden and Shane Watson, in the commentary box, expressed disagreement over the call, calling it “unfair” and “debatable.”

Earlier, GT’s bowling unit, led by Mohammed Siraj (3 wickets), restricted SRH to 152/8 in 20 overs. R Sai Kishore and Prasidh Krishna also contributed with 2 wickets each, while Nitish Reddy top-scored for Hyderabad with 31.

At the time of the controversy, GT needed 47 runs from 41 balls, with Shubman Gill well-set at the crease and looking to finish the chase.
