Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium witnessed a thunderous roar on Friday as captain Ruturaj Gaikwad announced the return of Devon Conway to the Chennai Super Kings lineup ahead of their IPL 2025 clash against Delhi Capitals. The Kiwi opener’s comeback was met with wild cheers, signaling the home crowd’s excitement and renewed hope for a turnaround in CSK’s campaign.

The five-time champions have endured a shaky start to their season under new captain Gaikwad, with just one win from their first three matches. With Faf du Plessis ruled out due to fitness issues, CSK needed a stabilizing presence at the top—and Conway’s return was the answer fans had been waiting for.

Conway, who was signed for ₹6.25 crore at the 2025 mega-auction, has been a reliable performer for CSK, scoring 924 runs in 22 matches at an impressive average of 49 and a strike rate of nearly 141. His pairing with fellow New Zealander Rachin Ravindra adds much-needed firepower at the top.

Earlier speculations suggested that CSK’s management was considering key changes following back-to-back losses to RCB and RR. With the team languishing in eighth place, today’s lineup changes, including Mukesh Choudhary’s inclusion for Rajvardhan Hangargekar, aim to spark a mid-season revival.

Delhi Capitals won the toss and opted to bat first, with Sameer Rizvi replacing the unfit Faf in their XI. All eyes will now be on Conway and Ruturaj to deliver at the top and lift CSK back into winning form.
