Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL), a key subsidiary of Coal India, has achieved historic milestones in FY2024-25, including its highest-ever coal production for March at 4.33 million tonnes (MT) and its second-highest annual coal production at 40.5 MT. The company also recorded the highest-ever fourth-quarter output of 11.44 MT despite facing the heaviest rainfall in 50 years.

The coal PSU surpassed major benchmarks in operational excellence and sustainability. It achieved its highest-ever overburden removal at 181.3 million cubic meters and a 49% year-on-year increase in underground production. Rail dispatches rose 6% even amid elevated stock levels at power plants.

On the financial front, BCCL paid a maiden dividend of Rs 44.43 crore to Coal India, received an income tax refund of Rs 104 crore, and reported the highest income tax payment in a decade at Rs 406 crore. It also crossed its capex target for the fourth consecutive year, spending Rs 1,100 crore against the Rs 1,000 crore target.

The company’s washeries recorded their highest raw coal feed in 25 years at 5.6 million tonnes and set a 20-year record for washed coal supply to the steel sector at 1.7 million tonnes. Monetization of idle washeries began with a Rs 762 crore lease of Dugdha Washery, and another washery is up for bidding.

In line with its Net Zero commitment, BCCL commissioned 4.088 MW of rooftop solar, initiated larger-scale solar projects, and adopted electric vehicles to reduce fuel use. The company also made strides in digital transformation, introducing advanced ERP modules and automated infrastructure.

The firm’s CSR spend exceeded targets, and it provided job-linked skill training and employment opportunities for project-affected persons and dependents. With renewed focus on mine re-operationalization and infrastructure development, BCCL continues to strengthen its position in India’s energy ecosystem.
