Country music star Morgan Wallen’s unexpected departure from Saturday Night Live (SNL) on March 29 has generated significant attention, with fans and show insiders speculating on the circumstances. The 31-year-old singer walked off the stage as the closing credits rolled, leaving many surprised.
Wallen later posted a photo of an airplane on Instagram with the caption, “Get me to God’s country,” leading to further curiosity about his swift exit. The post was quickly noticed by SNL writer Josh Patten, who shared a tongue-in-cheek Instagram Story featuring a Krispy Kreme truck in New York City with the same caption. Although some viewed Patten’s post as a subtle jab at Wallen, he later clarified his stance by sharing his Apple Music Replay from 2023, which showed four of Wallen’s songs among his top five listens. He also responded to speculation with an eye-rolling emoji and a rhetorical comment about his music preferences.
Wallen, who was the musical guest on the episode hosted by Mikey Madison, performed two songs, I’m the Problem and Just in Case, from his upcoming album slated for release on May 16. While he did not participate in any sketches, he embraced Madison before leaving the stage.
This is not Wallen’s first controversy involving SNL. In 2020, he was removed from the lineup after violating Covid-19 protocols, only to return in December that year alongside Jason Bateman, who participated in a sketch satirizing the incident.
While no SNL cast members have addressed his recent exit, the incident has fueled online discussions, with fans speculating on the reasons behind his swift departure.
