Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) has emerged as the lowest bidder (L1) for a crucial railway electrification project awarded by Central Railway. The contract involves the modification of the Overhead Equipment (OHE) system to upgrade the existing 1×25 KV electric traction system to a more efficient 2×25 KV at the feeding system in the Itarsi-Amla section of the Nagpur division. This project aligns with Indian Railways’ vision to enhance its infrastructure to support a 3000 MT loading target.

The contract, awarded through tender number NGP-GSU-EL-TRD-2024-25-02, is valued at ₹115.79 crore, inclusive of applicable taxes. The work is expected to be completed within 24 months, ensuring improved operational efficiency and higher power transmission capacity for freight and passenger trains. Given its significance, the project will play a crucial role in bolstering railway connectivity and supporting India’s growing transportation needs.

The contract was awarded by a domestic entity, and no promoter or group company of RVNL holds any interest in Central Railway. As Indian Railways continues to modernize, such electrification projects are pivotal in enhancing efficiency and sustainability. The upgrade from a 1×25 KV system to 2×25 KV will not only increase the power supply capacity but also contribute to smoother train operations, reducing congestion and delays.
