It appears that Indian spinner Varun Chakravarthy may have taken a subtle dig at Pakistan’s Abrar Ahmed following India’s Champions Trophy 2025 triumph. Chakravarthy’s Instagram post, where he sipped coffee while holding the Champions Trophy with the caption, “A lot of distance was travelled to get a taste of this Cup,” has gone viral, leading netizens to believe that it was aimed at Abrar Ahmed.
This comes after Abrar had previously posted a picture of himself enjoying tea with the caption “Last cup of Fantastic evening tea,” which some interpreted as a reference to past political events between India and Pakistan. Fans quickly pointed out the irony, suggesting that Varun’s post was a witty response to Abrar’s earlier remark.
India secured the Champions Trophy 2025 title after defeating New Zealand by four wickets in the final at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. The tournament saw debates over India’s favorable scheduling, as the Men in Blue played all their matches in Dubai, while teams like New Zealand and South Africa had to endure extensive travel between Pakistan and the UAE.
Pakistan Cricket Board unhappy over ICC’s explanation on Champions Trophy Final snub
Varun Chakravarthy was instrumental in India’s success, finishing as the joint second-highest wicket-taker with nine wickets in three matches. He made an immediate impact in the group stage and was crucial in the knockout rounds, strengthening India’s bowling attack alongside Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, and Ravindra Jadeja.
With this victory, India ended their 12-year ICC ODI trophy drought, their last major 50-over tournament win coming in 2013 under MS Dhoni’s leadership.
