Hindustan Zinc Limited (HZL), India’s largest zinc producer, has strengthened its renewable energy commitment by expanding its partnership with Serentica Renewables. The company has now secured a total of 530 MW of round-the-clock renewable energy, up from the previously agreed 450 MW, further solidifying its sustainability efforts.
Key Highlights:
- The expanded 530 MW renewable power supply will cover approximately 70% of Hindustan Zinc’s total energy requirements.
- The first batch of renewable power from Serentica’s 180 MW solar park has already been integrated into operations.
- The agreement guarantees 315 MW of uninterrupted power every 15 minutes, ensuring consistent energy supply.
- The project is expected to be fully operational by 2027, utilizing a combination of solar, wind, and energy storage technologies.
Decarbonization & Sustainability Goals
Hindustan Zinc aims to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050 or sooner by transitioning to cleaner fuels, electric vehicles, and renewable power sources. The company has already achieved a 14% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions since 2020.
CEO Arun Misra emphasized the importance of sustainability in securing long-term business resilience, stating:
“This agreement marks a significant step in our climate action strategy, helping us reduce carbon emissions by nearly 70%.”
Serentica Renewables CEO Akshay Hiranandani highlighted the importance of their innovative approach to delivering firm and reliable renewable energy to industrial partners, helping them transition away from conventional energy sources.

Hindustan Zinc has been recognized as the world’s most sustainable metals & mining company by S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment 2024. The company also introduced EcoZen, Asia’s first low-carbon zinc, made using renewable energy.
