India’s unwanted streak of losing tosses continued in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final, as Rohit Sharma once again called it wrong. This was India’s 15th consecutive toss loss in ODIs, while Rohit himself has now lost 12 in a row. The odds of this happening are a staggering 1 in 32,768, making it one of the most bizarre streaks in cricket history.
New Zealand, after winning the toss, chose to bat first on a pitch expected to slow down later in the game. Rohit and his team have had to adjust to playing second every time, but despite the streak, India has reached the final with strong performances.
New Zealand fight back to post 251
Batting first, New Zealand put up 251 for 7 in their 50 overs. They lost early wickets but Daryl Mitchell (63 runs) steadied the innings, while Michael Bracewell played a quickfire knock of 53 off 40 balls to give them a strong finish.
India’s bowlers kept the pressure on, with Varun Chakravarthy and Kuldeep Yadav picking up two wickets each. However, Bracewell’s late surge ensured that New Zealand set a challenging target for the Indian batters.
With the toss out of their control, India must now focus on their batting effort to chase down 252 and in order to lift their third Champions Trophy title.
