The Accountant 2 is finally making it to the big screens, nine years after original released. Director Gavin O’Connor and actor Ben Affleck are back to continue the story of genius Christian Wolff, who this time is accompanied by his brother Brax, played by Jon Bernthal. That is not all though, as Ray King returns courtesy of J.K. Simmons and Marybeth Media courtesy of Cyntha Addai-Robinson.

During an interview with ScreenRant, The Accountant 2 director and stars Cynthia and Daniella Pineda at SXSW, talked about the long wait for the sequel and what happens to their characters in the movie.

The Accountant 2 delayed due to “Musical Chairs” at Warner Brothers

The Accountant came out in 2016, and Gavin started attempting to create a sequel not long after. “There was some musical chairs being played at Warner Brothers in regard to the regime changes,” O’Connor started when questioned as to why it took so long, “There was Covid, there were lockdowns, there was a strike… so it [had] some starts and stops.”

Ben is one of the reasons that the film finally got off the ground. “Ben started his own studio with Matt [Damon],” O’Conor explained. He went on: “I don’t know all the details. I don’t know if Warner Brothers didn’t want to do a co-[finance] or co-studio [deal] … but they very generously allowed us to take the movie elsewhere.”. The first that we visited was Amazon, and we partnered with them.

Cynthia Addai-Robinson teases Marybeth’s new journey in The Accountant 2

The Accountant 2 trailer kills off J.K. Simmons’ Ray King, who close worked with Marybeth Medina, played by Cynthia Addai-Robinson, in the first movie. “He is there, and I’m not totally on my own,” Cynthia said when asked how it was to work without Simmons, “but it was nice to feel an evolution both for Marybeth as a character and for me as a person, because eight, going on nine years have elapsed between the first [film] and the second.”

For me,” she continued, “The thrill wasn’t so much getting to see J.K. again–although [in] very different circumstances than the first film–but getting to work with Ben and Jon and Daniella and just having a different experience altogether.

Later in the interview, Cynthia spoke to a large component of that different experience: “In the first movie, I didn’t get to work with Ben [or] Jon. I just got to sort of admire their work from afar.” Marybeth Medina in The Accountant 2 is quite much in the mix with the Wolff brothers.

Daniella Pineda Hypes Up Anäis

Daniella opened up her part of the interview introducing her jacket, which was so called Fernando for the movie stunt coordinator and later explained, “to give you a really kick-ass fight scene.” Daniella then elaborated about playing Anäis: “I’m in my villain stage now in my career, which I didn’t think would ever happen.”. It’s a role that I’ve never had the chance to perform … I auditioned, and I was petrified, [but] I was like ‘Man, if I can get this, this is gonna be so much fun.’

The Accountant 3 Is In The Works

Asked when fans will receive The Accountant “cubed” (a reference to The Accountant 2’s logo), the director assured that it won’t take eight years.
