Shreyas Iyer is set to make a comeback to the BCCI central contract list after being left out last year, according to reports. The contracts for the 2025-26 season will be announced after the conclusion of the Champions Trophy 2025, with the board assessing player performances before finalizing the list.

Iyer was excluded from the 2023-24 BCCI central contract for failing to comply with the board’s directive to prioritize domestic cricket. The BCCI had made it mandatory for contracted players to participate in the Ranji Trophy, but Iyer skipped Mumbai’s domestic matches, which led to his exclusion.

Despite being left out, Iyer has made a strong case for himself with his consistent performances for Mumbai in domestic cricket and his contributions to the Indian team. His recent form has reportedly convinced the BCCI selectors to bring him back into the central contract fold.

The BCCI is reassessing its contracts, particularly in Grade A+, as players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja have retired from T20Is. The Champions Trophy final against New Zealand on March 9 could play a role in determining the final contract list.

With Iyer expected to be reinstated, the new central contract list will likely reflect India’s roadmap for the 2027 ODI World Cup and future leadership transitions.
