Ola’s “Inside the Box” architecture, which combines the motor, battery, and electronics into a single, cohesive unit, is the core of the Gen 3 platform. The battery becomes a structural component due to this creative design, increasing the stiffness and safety of the scooter. Along with a 26% increase in performance, it also helps to significantly lower expenses, with a 20% drop in the bill of materials (BOM) anticipated over the course of the next year.
One of the standout features is the introduction of magnetless motors. By replacing traditional permanent magnets with magnetized electrical coils, Ola has created a motor that offers superior torque and efficiency. This not only enhances performance but also reduces dependence on rare earth materials, making the manufacturing process more sustainable.
The Gen 3 platform will also use Ola’s new battery system, which is powered by 4680 battery cells made in the country and offers a 10% boost in energy density. These cells are made to be more long-lasting and efficient, so the drive will last longer.
With a multi-core processor that consolidates electronics, the Gen 3 also simplifies wiring complexity, enhancing reliability and enabling advanced features like Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).
