The Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare reported a remarkable progress in Rabi crop sowing for the 2024-25 season, with a total coverage of 655.88 lakh hectares as of January 27, 2025. This marks a significant increase compared to 643.72 lakh hectares during the corresponding period last year.
Wheat has seen notable growth, with the area sown rising to 324.38 lakh hectares, compared to 315.63 lakh hectares last year, surpassing the normal area of 312.35 lakh hectares. Similarly, pulses have recorded an increase to 142.49 lakh hectares, compared to 139.29 lakh hectares in the previous year.
Paddy cultivation stands at 35.15 lakh hectares, up from 30.38 lakh hectares in the same period last year, while Shri Anna and coarse cereals cover 55.67 lakh hectares, maintaining stable figures.
Among oilseeds, the total coverage is reported at 98.18 lakh hectares, slightly lower than last year’s 102.52 lakh hectares. However, rapeseed and mustard account for a major share, with an area of 89.30 lakh hectares compared to 93.73 lakh hectares last year.
The Department of Agriculture highlighted the continued efforts to support farmers in achieving these milestones, which not only contribute to food security but also strengthen the agricultural economy. The data underscores the robust performance of the Rabi cropping season, driven by favorable conditions and effective policies.
