Maruti Suzuki Fronx’s test mule, featuring a ‘Hybrid’ badge, has been spotted on the streets of Gurugram, signalling that Maruti’s hybrid models may soon hit Indian roads. Reports indicate that the automaker is developing its in-house hybrid system for compact cars, setting it apart from the Toyota-sourced hybrid technology used in models like the Grand Vitara.

The test mule, which sports the ‘Hybrid’ badge on the tailgate, shows no significant visual differences compared to the standard Fronx lineup. Additionally, the absence of camouflage or testing equipment suggests that the Fronx hybrid is in the final stages of development, bringing the vehicle closer to its official debut.

It is expected that the Fronx hybrid will launch alongside a facelift of the model, possibly by the end of this year or early next year. While Maruti Suzuki has yet to confirm the exact details, industry experts speculate that the new hybrid system could be a series hybrid, where the engine primarily functions as a generator to charge the vehicle’s batteries, rather than driving the wheels directly.
