NLC India Renewables Ltd. (NIRL) and Assam Power Distribution Company Ltd. (APDCL) have entered into a joint venture to develop 1000 MW of green energy projects in the state. The agreement was signed in Guwahati, marking a strong commitment to sustainable energy solutions.
The joint venture aims to harness renewable energy to meet Assam’s growing power demands. With NIRL holding a 51% stake and APDCL 49%, the JV will focus on the development of renewable energy projects such as solar and wind power. NIRL will contribute its expertise in renewable energy development, while APDCL will assist with land acquisition, regulatory approvals, and power evacuation infrastructure.
The collaboration will result in the creation of a Joint Venture Company (JVC) that will supply 100% of its generated power to Assam DISCOMs through Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) lasting 25 years. This initiative is expected to ensure a reliable, affordable, and sustainable power supply for Assam, contributing to the state’s long-term energy security.
This partnership aligns with India’s broader goals to increase renewable energy penetration and reduce dependence on fossil fuels. As part of NLC India’s vision to promote environmental sustainability and accelerate the energy transition, the joint venture supports the national agenda for combating climate change and fostering sustainable development.
